Connect Stripe to import payment data
Paste a restricted API key to import Stripe payments as purchase conversions in Cascade and use them to analyze leads and ad performance.
Author: Cascade
When you connect Stripe, Cascade imports Stripe payments (including Payment Links, Checkout, and subscriptions) as purchase conversions. Even if your business has no online store shopping cart (such as a SaaS business, online service, course, or appointment-based business), you can view revenue and customer information in Attribution and EC Analysis. Connect from Settings > Integrations in the left menu.
To connect, simply paste a Restricted API key issued by Stripe into Cascade. Setup takes about 2–3 minutes.
What you can do
Feature | Description |
|---|---|
Attribution | Show imported purchases in the leads list. Payments made through pages with the measurement tag are included in Revenue (Cascade Tag) and ROAS (Cascade Tag) in Performance Analysis. |
Sales (Stripe tab) | Subscriptions (Stripe) (new subscriptions, cancellations, churn rate, active subscriptions, MRR, and LTV), Sales trend (Stripe payments), Customer LTV Analysis, and the customer list |
Send closed order data | Send purchases attributed to ads as conversions to the ad platform they are attributed to. |
Requirements
Integrations is available on the Business plan.
You need the Owner or Admin role for the product to manage the connection.
You need an account that can log in to the Stripe Dashboard in live mode.
You can connect 1 Stripe account to 1 product.
Steps
1. Click Connect on the Integrations page
Open Settings > Integrations, then click Connect in the Stripe row under Commerce Integrations. The Connect Stripe revenue source screen opens.
2. Create a restricted API key
Click Open the key creation page (permissions preselected · Stripe Dashboard) to open the key creation page in the Stripe Dashboard. The key name (Cascade) and required permissions are preselected. Click Create key at the bottom of the page, then copy the displayed key (a string starting with rk_live_).
The key is shown only once, immediately after creation. If you forget to copy it, create a new key.
Occasionally, the name and permissions may not be preselected on the page that opens. If this happens, configure them manually as follows.
Resource | Permission |
|---|---|
Charges and Refunds | Read |
Checkout Sessions | Read |
Invoices | Read |
Subscriptions | Read |
Webhook Endpoints, Event Destinations | Write |
You can leave all other permissions set to None. For security, Cascade does not accept full-access secret keys (keys starting with sk_).
3. Paste the key and connect
Paste the copied key into Restricted API key and click Connect. Setup is complete when "Connected to Stripe." appears.
After connecting, Cascade automatically does the following.
Registers a webhook in your Stripe account for real-time imports (the webhook is automatically deleted when you disconnect, and no manual webhook setup is needed)
Imports the past 400 days (about 13 months) of payments (this may take a few minutes)
Imports subsequent payments in real time as they occur
How imported data appears
Leads in Attribution (Customer Management > Attribution): Shows all imported purchases. You do not need to install a tag on your site.
Revenue (Cascade Tag) and ROAS (Cascade Tag) in Performance Analysis: Only purchases made after proceeding to payment from a page with the measurement tag are included in ad performance. The tag is required to identify which ad led to a purchase (for installation instructions, see Track inquiries, bookings, and purchases (install the tag)).
The Stripe tab in Sales (EC > Sales): Subscriptions (Stripe) shows new subscriptions, cancellations, churn rate, active subscriptions, MRR, and LTV. Sales trend (Stripe payments) shows payment revenue after refunds and the number of payments. Customer LTV Analysis shows analysis and a list of purchasing customers. Data is updated through daily aggregation.
Recurring subscription payments (the 2nd charge onward): These are not counted as purchases (only the initial payment counts as a purchase). They are included in total revenue (LTV) and Sales trend (Stripe payments). Subscribers appear as purchasers in the leads list, so you can also use them in customer lists and similar features.
Send closed order data: When you select Stripe as the source, purchases attributed to ads are sent to the ad platform they are attributed to. Fully refunded purchases, recurring payments, and purchases made before you enable sending are not sent.
If a refund occurs, it is deducted from the imported purchase amount.
Disconnect Stripe
Click Remove in the Stripe row under Settings > Integrations. The message "Disconnecting removes access to data from the connected service and limits the reports and data you can view." appears. Review it and proceed. Disconnecting deletes the automatically registered webhook in Stripe, the key stored in Cascade, and subscription aggregates. Imported purchase records remain.
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
"Enter a read-only restricted key (rk_)." appears | You pasted a full-access secret key (sk_). | Paste the rk_live_ key you created in step 2. |
"Test mode keys cannot be used in production." appears | You pasted an rk_test_ key. | Use an rk_live_ key issued in live mode. |
"The Stripe key does not have the required read permissions." appears | Read access is not enabled for all of Charges and Refunds, Checkout Sessions, and Invoices. | Edit the key's permissions in the Stripe Dashboard and allow read access to all 3 resources. |
"The Stripe key does not have read permission for Subscriptions." appears | Read access to Subscriptions is not enabled. | Edit the key to allow read access to Subscriptions, then connect. If you add the permission after connecting, active subscriptions, MRR, and LTV appear starting with the next day's aggregation. |
"The Stripe key does not have permission to create webhooks." appears | Write access to Webhook Endpoints, Event Destinations is not enabled. | Add write access to the key's permissions, then connect again. |
"Failed to register the webhook automatically." appears | Stripe has reached its webhook limit (16). | Delete unused webhooks in Stripe, then connect again. |
"The Stripe key is invalid or expired." appears, or "The Stripe key is invalid" appears in Sales | The key was deleted or rotated. | Disconnect, issue a new restricted key, and connect again. Purchase imports also stop while the key remains invalid. |
"A Stripe revenue source is already connected to this product." appears | A connection already exists. | To replace the key, click Remove to disconnect, then connect again. |
"Failed to validate the Stripe key." appears | There is a temporary issue. | Please try again later. |
Purchases do not appear after connecting | Historical data is still being imported. | Check again in a few minutes. Subscription metrics appear starting with the next day's aggregation. |
