Shopify Exclusion Settings
Exclude non-sale items, such as package inserts, from Shopify product totals so rankings and shares reflect actual sales.
Author: Cascade
Shopify Exclusion Settings lets you exclude package inserts, promotional giveaways, and similar items from product totals. This applies to "items registered as products but not actually sold". Use it when bestseller or bundle purchase rankings include items that do not reflect actual sales. Open it from the Shopify tab under EC > Items in the left menu.
Exclusions are set by Shopify collection. Products in excluded collections are removed from product-level totals.

Reports affected by exclusions
Report | Effect |
|---|---|
Shares are recalculated without the excluded products. | |
Excluded products no longer appear in the list (they are also excluded from out-of-stock and low-stock displays). | |
Excluded products are removed from the rankings. | |
Excluded products are removed from both product return rates in Items and overall return and refund metrics (return rate and refund amount) in Sales. | |
Excluded products are removed from combination totals. |
Exclusions do not change the store's total revenue. Reports for the entire store, such as Sales Trend, continue to display as before. This setting applies only to Shopify reports.
Prerequisites
Shopify must be connected (see About Integrations).
Group the products you want to exclude into Shopify collections (e.g., "Package inserts"). You can use multiple collections. Create collections under Products > Collections in Shopify admin.
Only Owners and Admins can view and change these settings. The settings button does not appear for Editors or Viewers.
Steps
1. Open EC > Items and select the Shopify tab at the top
Select the Shopify tab even if Shopify is your only connected service. Exclusion settings are accessed from the Items page (they are not on the Sales page).
2. Click Shopify Exclusion Settings
This button is at the top of the Shopify tab. If exclusions are already configured, it shows "[number] collections excluded".
3. Select the collections to exclude
Enter a collection name in the search field to narrow the options. You can select multiple collections, and "[number] selected" appears. You can select up to 100 collections per product.
4. Click Save
The message "Saved exclusion settings" appears, and the affected cards reload automatically. To stop excluding a collection, clear its selection on the same screen and save again.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Is data for excluded products deleted?
No. The data is not deleted. Exclusion is a display setting. Clear the exclusions and save to restore the products in each report.
Q. Can I exclude just 1 specific product?
Exclusions are set by collection. Create a collection in Shopify containing only that product, then select it.
Q. Do exclusions also apply to past periods?
Yes. The current exclusion settings apply regardless of the period you view.
Q. Can I use this with other e-commerce services, such as Shopline?
This setting is specific to Shopify. It does not apply to reports for other e-commerce services.
