Use Ad Expression Check
AI extracts prohibited wording rules from your internal ad standards. Learn to require reviewer approval before actions such as Ad Posting.
Author: Cascade
With Ad Expression Check, you can register documents containing your internal ad wording standards, and the AI automatically extracts rules for prohibited expressions. Enable Approval Flow to require a reviewer's approval before actions such as Ad Posting. This helps prevent deviations from internal standards, such as those based on the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act or brand guidelines.
Open Ad Settings > Ad Expression Check from the left menu.
What you can do
Feature | Details |
|---|---|
Automatic check rule extraction | Upload reference documents, and the AI automatically identifies prohibited expressions and rules. |
Approval flow | Require a reviewer's approval before actions such as Ad Posting. |
Approval request management | View requests and AI check results, then approve requests, send them back, or revoke approval. |
Prerequisites
This feature is available on the Business plan.
Owners, Admins, and Editors can view and use this page.
Editors can also register and edit reference documents.
Only Owners and Admins can change approval flow settings.
Steps
1. Register reference documents

On the Reference Documents tab, click Upload document and select a file containing your internal ad wording standards. Supported formats are text, Markdown, PDF, Word (.docx), and Excel (.xlsx). A file size limit applies. The AI can also transcribe and import scanned PDFs without text data.
After you upload a document, the AI reads its contents and automatically extracts prohibited expressions and rules. Document statuses appear as follows:
Status | Details |
|---|---|
Extracting | The AI is reading the contents. |
Extracted | Rule extraction is complete. |
Extracted (AI transcription) | The AI transcribed a PDF without text data and extracted its rules. |
Unsupported format | Rules cannot be extracted because the format is not supported. |
Extraction failed | The document could not be read. Review its size and contents, then upload it again. |
2. Review and edit check rules
The extracted content appears in the Check rules table.
Column | Details |
|---|---|
NG expression | The expression to check. |
Replacement / annotation | The recommended replacement wording or annotation. |
Type | One of Replace, Forbidden, Annotation required, Conditional, or Prose rule. |
Conditions | The conditions under which the rule applies, if any. |
Enabled | A switch to turn the rule on or off. |
You can also add rows or import rules from a CSV file. Importing a CSV replaces the entire check rules table for that document (other documents are not affected). The safer approach is to edit a CSV created with Export and import it. Prose rule rows are excluded from imports, and CSV files can be up to 2 MB.
3. Set up the approval flow

On the Settings tab, set the recipients for approval requests under Reviewers. On the same tab, turn on Enable approval flow and select the actions under Operations requiring approval.
Ad Posting
Keyword application
Copy application
Creative application
Direct ad edit (including edits to Sponsored Brands ads in Amazon Ads)
4. Request a review when performing an action
When you perform an action covered by the approval flow, Request review appears before execution. Click it to run an AI check and send an approval request to the reviewers. Publishing multiple ad groups together also creates just 1 request.
Once approved, you can execute the action. If the request is sent back, revise the content and submit it again. Changing the target content after requesting a review invalidates approval.
5. Review requests and approve or send them back

The Approval Requests tab displays a list of requests (recent requests only).
Column | Details |
|---|---|
Requested at | The date and time the review was requested. |
Target | The action type and target, such as Ad Posting, keyword application, copy application, creative application, direct ad edits, or ad swaps. |
Requested by | The member who submitted the request. |
AI findings | The number of issues found by the AI check. |
Approvals | The members who approved or sent back the request, and the dates and times. |
Status | One of Awaiting approval, Approved, Sent back, or Superseded. |
Click a row to open its details and review Check target, AI check results, and Approve in that order. AI findings include suggested revisions. Reviewers select Approve or Sent back. A comment is required to send a request back. Use Revoke approval to revoke an approved request.
Requests and results are delivered to your connected chat notification destinations and by email.
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
A document fails to upload. | The file exceeds the size limit or uses an unsupported format. | Reduce the file size and upload it again as text, Markdown, PDF, Word, or Excel. |
A document's status becomes Unsupported format or Extraction failed. | The format is unsupported, or the document could not be read. | Convert the document to a supported format or save it again with text data, then upload it again. |
Check rules are not extracted correctly. | Analysis is taking time, or the AI could not identify prohibited expressions in the content. | Wait a while and check again. If rules are not extracted, add rows and register them manually. |
Request review does not appear when you perform an action. | The action is not included in Operations requiring approval for the approval flow. | Select the action again on the Settings tab. |
Approval requests are not delivered. | Reviewers are not set, or the recipients have not set up notification integrations. | Check the reviewers on the Settings tab. |
You cannot send a request back. | No comment has been entered. | Enter the reason for sending the request back in the comment. |
You cannot execute an action even though it was approved. | Content was changed after the review request, invalidating approval. | Finalize the content, then request another review. |
