Set up brand guidelines
Manage colors, fonts, wording, tone, assets, and rules AI extracts from a VI manual PDF, and automatically apply them to landing pages, ad images, and copy.
Author: Cascade
Brand Guidelines lets you store your brand's colors, fonts, writing rules, tone of voice, and rules for using logos and characters in one place, then apply them automatically to Cascade-generated content (landing pages, ad images, and ad copy). Upload a visual identity (VI) manual or brand guidelines PDF, and AI analyzes it to create the guidelines.
Open Ad Settings > Brand Guidelines from the left menu.

What you can do
Feature | Details |
|---|---|
Create automatically from a PDF | AI extracts colors, fonts, writing rules, tone, brand assets, and rules from a VI manual PDF. |
Edit in each tab | Review the extracted results in 5 tabs, edit errors directly, and save. |
Apply to generation | Apply guidelines by default when generating landing pages, ad images, and ad copy. Turn them off individually for content types where you do not want them applied. |
Where guidelines apply
Once added, guidelines are applied by default to the following types of generation. To exclude a content type, turn it off under Applies To in Basic Information.
Applies to | What is applied |
|---|---|
Landing pages | Colors, fonts, tone, writing rules, and logos in landing page generation. |
Ad images | Colors, visual style, and references to actual logo and character assets in image generation and editing. |
Ad copy | Writing rules and tone in AI drafts for Ad Posting, search ad copy, taglines, creative copy, LINE Delivery drafts, Copy Optimization, and Amazon Ads product page proposals. Ad copy that violates writing rules is corrected automatically. |
Requirements
Available on the Business plan.
Owners, Admins, and Editors can create and edit guidelines. Viewers can also view them.
You can have 1 set of guidelines per product.
Only add official logo and character assets that you have the right to use.
Steps
1. Upload a PDF
Click Upload PDF and select a VI manual or brand guidelines PDF (up to 20MB). AI also transcribes and imports scanned image PDFs that contain no text data.
2. Review the extracted results
AI analyzes the PDF and extracts colors, fonts, writing rules, tone, brand assets, and rules to create the guidelines. Analysis takes a few minutes. Once complete, you can review and edit the content in each tab. The extracted content includes AI interpretations, so always review it before publishing.
3. Edit the content
Tab | Details |
|---|---|
Basic Information | The brand name and which content types (landing pages, ad images, and ad copy) the guidelines apply to during generation. |
Colors & Typography | Brand colors (HEX values and each color's role and usage) and specified fonts. Image generation cannot use font files, so it renders text in fonts with a similar look. Landing page generation specifies the exact font when it is available on the web (e.g., Google Fonts). |
Notation & Tone | Rules for correct and incorrect spellings of brand names and other terms, plus brand personality and voice. |
Brand Assets | Upload official logo and character assets (PNG, JPEG, or WebP, up to 5MB) and set whether AI generation of characters is allowed. You can add up to 10 characters. Only registered official assets are passed as reference images and rendered accordingly. AI does not invent depictions of characters for which AI generation is prohibited. |
Brand Rules | Manage requirements and prohibitions from the VI manual as written text, with categories. Rules set to Apply to generation are used as instructions to AI during generation. Rules set to Review only are retained for records and review. |

If the extracted results contain errors, edit each field directly and save.
4. Replace the source document
When the VI manual is revised, upload the new PDF using Rebuild with a new brand guideline. Rebuilding deletes the current guidelines, including manual edits, registered logos and assets, and the record of the original PDF, then recreates them from the new PDF. Review the content again after rebuilding.
How this differs from Brand profile in landing page generation
Landing page generation also has a Brand profile where you set colors, fonts, and logos for a workspace. Brand profile settings are used only for landing page generation. Brand Guidelines settings are used for generated content across the product.
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
You cannot upload a PDF | The file exceeds 20MB or is not a PDF. | Convert it to a PDF of 20MB or less and try again. |
Analysis does not finish | PDFs with many pages or PDFs that require transcription take longer. | Wait a few minutes, then reload the page. |
You cannot upload a logo or asset | The format is not PNG, JPEG, or WebP, or the file exceeds 5MB. | Convert it to a supported format of 5MB or less. |
You cannot add a character | You have reached the limit of 10 characters. | Delete an unused character, then add the new one. |
Guidelines are not reflected in generated content | The content type is turned off under Applies To in Basic Information, or the rule is set to Review only. | Turn on Applies To and change the rules you want to use to Apply to generation. |
You cannot edit | Viewers do not have permission to edit. | Ask an Owner, Admin, or Editor. |
